Requirements
Pick bare metal (a systemd service) or a container. Both give the same web page.
| Linux service | Docker / Podman | |
|---|---|---|
| System | Linux with systemd (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL / Rocky / Alma, openSUSE, Arch…) | Linux x86-64 (linux/amd64 image) |
| Software | Python 3.9 or newer, ffmpeg. The installer adds what it can through your package manager. | Docker Engine with Compose, or Podman 4.4+. ffmpeg is inside the image. |
| GPU | An ffmpeg build with your encoder (NVENC, VA-API or QSV). Distribution ffmpeg packages differ; on RHEL-family systems you need RPM Fusion. | Nothing extra beyond the driver (and the NVIDIA Container Toolkit for NVIDIA). The image ships a full ffmpeg. |
| Browser | Any current browser on the same network. | |
Which should I use?
If you are not sure, use Docker or Podman: the image contains an ffmpeg with every encoder the tool uses, so GPU encoding works without compiling anything. Choose the Linux service when you cannot run containers or want the tool to sit next to an ffmpeg you already maintain.
AMD's AMF encoder is Windows-only. On Linux, AMD GPUs encode through VA-API, which the tool supports.
